Press release - Redrow Development Lyth Hill
15th December 2025

We were greatly saddened that at the Shropshire Council Northern Planning Committee on Tuesday 9th December permission was granted for Redrow to build 112 houses at the base of Lyth Hill, an area of green agricultural land.

Chairman Cllr Rob Ruscoe said “Bayston Hill Parish Council have fought hard to prevent this from happening – we are not NIMBYs, we understand that development will happen in our Parish. However, this incoming blot to our landscape is inappropriate and ill thought through.

“There are considerable restrictions to this site, poor access, congested entry points to the village from major trunk roads and flooding to name but a few. Locally there is zero capacity for additional school or doctor places. The site is not served by public transport nor does it have amenities that would be accessible by foot given the distance it is away from the village centre.

“We are also disappointed by the manner in which Shropshire Planning Dept have handled the 2 hearings that have taken place at the Northern Planning Committee. Members were denied a site visit, which we had requested due to the earlier committee being held in August and members being on holiday. The public meeting recording is not complete, denying interested parties from fully hearing the proceedings. Members raising questions were given incorrect information regarding density of surrounding roads, the grade of agricultural land and that a comprehensive consultation with the parish had taken place – it had not.”
